How to Pour the Perfect Guinness

Drinking is a lifestyle and an art. It has standards, philosophies and practices that must be adhered to to maximize the experience. To the casual eye, mixing a great martini is simply a matter of pouring the right amounts of gin and vermouth into a shaker, mixing it around a bit, and pouring- however, any real drinker knows better. In that same light, pouring a perfect pint of Guinness is far more than simply filling a glass. Guinness Brewmaster Fergal Murray demonstrates the proper technique:

When you order that first Guinness this St. Patrick’s Day, see if your bartender crafts the pint properly. If he doesn’t however, don’t reprimand him for his lack of care or skill. After all, it will be St. Patty’s Day, speed and consideration are also principle concerns for any good bartender. If you act like a beer snob and try to correct him at his job, be sure that your drinks will be few and far between that day.

Enjoy the pint! Divide and Cocktail!
